Souvenirs & Mementos

"The secret of a good memory is attention, and attention to a subject depends upon our interest in it. We rarely forget that which has made a deep impression on our minds." Tryon Edwards

This little box is part of the new range from Rapt In Paper and a perfect way of storing your souvenirs and mementos from special occasions.

As much as we would like to think our minds are always going to remember all the important details, sometimes it is nice to have a little place to store your treasures as prompts to ensure you never forget the good things in life.

Glimpses of my world

‘If future generations are to remember us more with gratitude than sorrow, we must achieve more than just the miracles of technology. We must also leave them a glimpse of the world as it was when it was created, not just as it looked when we got through with it.’ Lyndon B. Johnson

One of my favourite lookouts on the north coast of NSW. Autumn may not mean a bright show of leaves changing colors but late in the afternoon the sun slips through the sky casting a beautiful light show.

SkyWatch Friday is hosted by Wiggers World, click here for the long list of links from all over the globe posting their own glimpses of the sky.

All About Paper

“Memory is a way of holding onto the things you love, the things you are, the things you never want to lose.” From the television show The Wonder Years

Mini books are a great way of safekeeping memories of special occasions and those days you would not want to loose.

This is part of a collection from classes we will be teaching at All About Paper in the next few weeks.

We were lucky enough to meet Andrea Thompson and Angella Peardon at Kit & Caboodle where she lead the group in the making of a bright & funky mini album.

Spontaneous Delight

“We do not believe in ourselves until someone reveals that deep inside us is valuable, worth listening to, worthy of our trust, sacred to our touch. Once we believe in ourselves we can risk curiosity, wonder, spontaneous delight or any experience that reveals the human spirit." e.e. cummings

Thank you to Sharon of Funky Fairy Frolics my buddy in the recent Mermaid Swap for this fabulous creation and collection of mermaid goodies.

Alone with the heavens

“The best remedy for those who are afraid, lonely or unhappy is to go outside, somewhere where they can be quiet, alone with the heavens, nature and God. Because only then does one feel that all is as it should be and that God wishes to see people happy, amidst the simple beauty of nature.” Anne Frank

One of the many beautiful beaches in our area on a crisp winter’s day. Off season is my favourite time of year to walk the beach, you have it almost to yourself excep for all those million & one thoughts you never have time for anywhere else.
Be sure to check Wiggers World for links to all the other SkyWatch participants. It is an amazing collection of photos from around the world.

The most interesting thing I discovered about SkyWatch from simply watching what others were posting, beautiful skies start appearing in your own day. In the middle of the average day full of hectic deadlines and traffic jams, your mind starts to frame up shots of sun light dancing on the clouds. We all know there is beauty in the everyday, sometimes you simply need to be reminded.

Mystical

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mystical. It is the source of all true art and all science. Those to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead because their eyes are closed." Albert Einstein

One of the pieces I am working on for a Mermaid themed Swap hosted by Genevieve of Bella Enchanted Blog is hosting .

Salutation To A New Dawn

Listen to the salutation to the dawn. Look to this day for its life. For yesterday is but a dream and tomorrow is only a vision. Today well spent makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Look well therefore to this day. Such is the salutation to the dawn. Sanskrit Translation

Exploring Dreams

“Those who dream by day are aware of many things which escape those who dream only by night.” Edgar Allan Poe

“It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see.” Henry David Thoreau

A page dedicated for all the folks (including me) who are currently reinventing themselves. It takes courage just to admit that change is needed and courage to dream the new direction, after all that the way forward has got to be the easy part.

Observations

“Nothing exists until or unless it is observed. An artist is making something exist by observing it. And his hope for other people is that they will also make it exist by observing it. I call it Creative Observation” William S Burroughs

This quote sums up the creative spirit so well. We feel things, dream things up in our head that sometimes our hands fashion up a bit differently than the initial thought and finally post them out into the wide world for others to experience. Hope you enjoy these creative posts as much as I like to share them because there is a new swap coming up that has tickled my muse to no end.

Beachy’s Cape Cod Cupboard Boudoir Swap has closed already but check her blog over the next few weeks for the build up of what is sure to be something special

Treasures

Donna of the Ribboned Crown Blog is hosting a Swashbuckle Soiree this weekend. Have started the party with a little box of treasures.

“Art is not a treasure in the past or an importation from another land, but part of the present life of all living and creating peoples.” Franklin D. Roosevelt

And with that message – I am off to see what other creative things we can get into this weekend.

Treasure box covered with music papers and lined with dictionary pages.

Often include dictionary definitions in paper projects. Funny that in this era of on line everything, old dictionaries are now a treasure from the past. And always interesting to reflect on what the words might mean to you.
